La Paz Kayaking Adventure: Mangroves & Malecón

Join us for a half-day kayaking adventure that takes you through some of La Paz’s most beautiful coastal scenery! We meet right on the beach in front of Hotel Marea, where your guide will give you a quick briefing before we launch into the calm waters of the bay.

We’ll paddle across to El Mogote, a stunning stretch of coastline lined with peaceful mangroves, home to a variety of birds and marine life. We’ll follow the shoreline, enjoying the tranquil views, and make a stop at one of Mogote’s remote beaches to take a break, stretch your legs, and enjoy a light snack.

After some time to relax, we hop back into the kayaks and begin the final stretch of the journey, crossing back over the bay to paddle along La Paz’s iconic Malecón. It’s a great contrast to the wild beauty of the mangroves—colorful, vibrant, and full of local life.

We finish back where we started, at the beach by Hotel Marea. The entire trip lasts between 3 to 5 hours, depending on the group’s pace, experience level, and the exact route taken.

Whether you’re new to kayaking or an experienced paddler, this is a great way to see La Paz from a new perspective!

Swimming with Whale Sharks

In the warm, crystal-clear waters just minutes from La Paz lies one of the most intact ecosystems in the world. Get ready to be inspired! Near El Mogote’s sand spit, the outer bay serves as a whale shark nursery, where you can observe and swim with the biggest fish in the ocean! Whale sharks are filter-feeding carpet sharks that reach a length of 62 feet / 19 meters and may live even longer than humans.

Your expert naturalist guide and professional boat captain both have received specialized training and are certified to facilitate responsible encounters that respect the animals’ habitat and feeding patterns.

A Day Exploring the Sea of Cortez

Just off the coast of La Paz, Espiritu Santo is the crown jewel of the Sea of Cortez and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Espiritu Santo has the most intact ecosystem in the region — and several of its plants and animals are found nowhere else in the world!

Using the island as a base, you can design your ideal day in paradise: kayaking or paddle-boarding, hiking desert canyons, snorkeling, and diving with playful California sea lions and schools of tropical fish. Or, simply relax on the beach with a cold drink and a good book in hand. You will also enjoy delicious catered snacks prepared with fresh, local ingredients.

Cabo Pulmo Diving has become the crown jewel of the southern Sea of Cortez. This protected area has had an amazing transformation over the years, changing from a fishing village to a hub of ecotourism.

Diving Famous Gordo Banks – the best dive around Cabo San Lucas

Gordo Banks is famous for sure. The holy grail of diving for Cabo divers, Gordo Banks is an underwater ridge with a series of pinnacles starting at a depth of 100 feet. It’s not a dive for the fainthearted unless they want to go with their own personal dive guide (which of course is no problem). Visibility in shallower water can be murky. There can be current. So why bother?? Because it’s the best reef in the area for seeing sharks, rays, jacks, turtles and large schools of smaller fish…. If you are really lucky you might even spot marlin, whale sharks, silky sharks, or schooling hammerheads. Divers have even encountered humpback whales between January and April!

You will have absolutely no problem if you are experienced enough to be able to jump in the water and hold your position near the descent line by finning against the light current. And then follow the descent line down. And have good buoyancy control and able to do a mid-water safety stop at 15 – 20 feet for 3 minutes on the way back up. That’s it!! Basic boat diving skills. And then we are off to get a couple of dives in and keep our fingers crossed for big critters. All divers have to stay with their dive guide unless prior arrangements have been made at the time of booking. Divers also need to be equipped with an SMB, dive alert signalling horn, and Nautilus Lifeline Marine Rescue GPS. If you don’t have all this gear (and we think everyone should!), we are happy to loan you what you need or if you prefer, you can purchase gear at competitive prices.

Do you want to do Gordo Banks but not sure if you have the skills yet?  

No worries!!   Our staff will be pleased to work with you ahead of time on some local boat dives for a day, 2 days, 3 days, or whatever it takes to get you comfortable and ready.   Is it worth it??  Heck yes!!!   This is a dive we never miss ourselves when we take a day off !!

Gordo Banks is 8 miles – 25 minutes – from where we berth our dive boats in Cabo San Lucas.  We depart daily, weather permitting.  

Best visibility is usually from September to December, but it’s always worth a visit!

Learning is FUN

Always wanted to try scuba diving but weren’t sure how to start?

Here’s your chance to discover what lies beneath the waves. You’ll learn the do’s and don’ts of diving in a detailed briefing, then head underwater with a certified SSI Instructor by your side. It’s super fun, safe, and easier than you think. Anyone can do it, including you!

After completing the Discover Scuba Diving program, if you decide you would like to get certified, your dive can be credited as your first Open Water training dive.

Price includes a detailed briefing and 1 dive with lots of personal attention.

Notes from our in-house marine biologist: It’s possible to see sea lions, white tip reef sharks, groups of mobulas (in-season), and huge schools of snappers and jacks. Plus a variety of eels, octopus, lobster, and even sea horses in the Cabo San Lucas Marine Park.

Diving out at the Corridor is a more tranquil experience, and you could see eagle rays, schools of machete, Cortez grunts, mobula rays, eels, and much more. Highlight: hearing singing humpback whales during your dive (Dec – April).
